Coolum State High School's diverse and immersive Instrumental Music program is one of the fastest growing co-curricular programs on the Sunshine Coast.
The program encompasses orchestral string, woodwind, brass and percussion instruments.
Every year, students audition and are placed in a compulsory ensemble, string orchestra or concert band. Students may also be invited to participate in extension jazz or percussion ensembles. Our school currently facilitates three core performing ensembles in a variety of genres.
The proficiency level of the musical groups ranges from beginner to advanced. Public performance is an integral part of the program and all members are expected to attend performances. Student learning and equipment is supported by the P&C Association.
Lessons and rehearsals
Students participate in a weekly group lesson during school time with a qualified instrumental music teacher and a weekly ensemble rehearsal before or after school.
Lesson timetables are available for students on the music noticeboard (outside of the PA staffroom) and are published each Term as well as being emailed out to students prior to each teaching period.
Levies and Fees
Enrolment in the Instrumental Music program at Coolum SHS is an annual fee of $150 per student. This levy subsidises the cost of consumable resources, musical instruments and workshops for all students in the Instrumental Music program.
