Year 12 Hospitality Lunch

Coolum High is preparing its Hospitality students for life in the real world with a series of culinary events with staff members, parents and community members as customers, giving authenticity to the occasions.

Year 12 students slaved over hot stoves and ovens to present a two course alternate drop lunch of Thai beef salad, homemade fettuccine with roasted pumpkin, feta and basil, pot pie with mashed potato, carrots and broccolini and finishing with a delectable chocolate self-saucing pudding or best ever cheesecake.  A refreshing, simple syrup lemonade was offered on arrival and guests finished the meal with tea or coffee.

The fettuccine, made by student Hayley, was described as ‘beautiful’ by one ‘customer’ with everyone commenting that the meal was great value and excellent quality.

Jane Harding, the special guest representing the P&C Association said, ‘The food was delicious and it was a wonderful treat at the end of a busy week to have a meal prepared and served.’

With more dinners and morning teas being planned, students are getting the hands-on experience needed to compete in the hospitality world.
