Welcome to 2015

9/02/2015

A special welcome is extended to all the new families and students, including over 170 Year 7 students, and in excess of 120 Year 8 students. As well, there are 64 new students in the other year levels, 12 international students who will make Coolum High their own in 2015 and Lachlan, Joshua and Izaak, our first triplets who also happen to be in Year 7.  Literally, it is a statistician’s dream come true.

With a record total student population of over 870 (numbers are still firming), this equates to over 40% of students new to the school. I know they are already impressed with the friendly and accommodating nature of our school community. It is really quite distinctive, one that I am extremely pleased about.

An inordinate number of talented teachers have also changed roles or joined us this year; Emma Curnow has taken up the position of Head of Department for Teaching and Learning, Robbie Koch is doing a sterling job heading up Junior Secondary, we welcome the return of Dean Whitson, Head of Department HPE and Sport and Kath Weston is acting English Head of Department. Craig Richardson joins us as a Master Teacher, having been part of the regional Success Team that works with schools on enhancing literacy, numeracy and student relationships and wellbeing.

It is great to have Mick Dwyer and Michelle Hewison join us from the Coolum State School and Rebecca McCann from Peregian Springs State School. We are fortunate enough to have other experienced teachers join our team from near and far;  Barry Butler from Noosa, Jo Baggett from North Carolina USA, Jock McCabe from Springsure, Andrew Nairn from Cleveland and Colette Webber from Maroochydore State High School.

We welcome graduate teachers Steven Little and Shon Evans, both come with impeccable credentials. Similarly, Trudi Cauley and Audrey Moore join our talented Special Needs Team in the Learning Centre.  Lani Hope, mother of Sam, Ruby and Angus, joins our Student Services Team as our Youth Support Coordinator.
