Students Remember Fallen Heroes

Six students from Coolum State High School have been awarded first, second and third in the Year 8 and Year 10 sections of the Nambour and District Historical Museum Student Writing Competition.

Each year the Museum holds a remembrance service honouring different people from the Sunshine Coast community. As part of the annual ceremony, students from around the Coast are invited to participate in an essay writing competition. This year the theme was the Battle of Lone Pine and the students were asked to write a ‘nurse’s diary’.
The students who received the awards were:
1st Prize – Riley Korableff (Year 10) and Grace Hoyes (Year 8)

2nd Prize – Rhianna Quarry (Year 10) and Maria Harrison (Year 8)

3rd Prize – Callum Noel (Year 10) and Bailey Ghent (Year 8)

Before undertaking the challenge, the students listened to a speech by Mrs Mary Murray, a former AIF nurse who served during WW2.
