Shave for a Cure

Year 10 student Brooke Lawry and Year 12 student Savannah Hobson were cheered on by students and staff as they shaved off their tresses for Shave for a Cure.  Brooke’s very proud mother, Robyn shaved off her daughter’s shiny locks in front of the crowd, whilst Savannah had the support of local hairdressers, Kate and Brittany, from Coolum Cutting Edge. Their ponytails were first plaited and then sliced off so the hair could be donated to the Princess Alexandra Hospital Alopecia Program to make real hair wigs for cancer patients, followed by the all-important shave.

All the students were involved with the festivities with a crazy hair stall, waxing booth and sausage sizzle.  Coolum State High School Senior Student Council President, Eli Walters-Sherriff, led the charge by being the first boy to have his legs shaved – all for the cause!  Justine West from Studio Esteem kindly donated her equipment, wax and expertise to wax our senior boys who now have a greater appreciation for the female beauty regime.

We would like to thank the local businesses who came to be a part of the day, Coolum Cutting Edge and Studio Esteem, and donated their time and talent to support our two dedicated and very courageous girls!
