Indigenous Liaison Appointment

10/06/2014

Coolum High welcomes Alea Williams into the school community as our Indigenous Liaison Officer.

This liaison role will assist Coolum High to further build and strengthen our community connections and pathways for our Indigenous students.

Alea identifies as a Yuin woman who has been connected with the Sunshine Coast for approximately fifteen years. With a background in talent management across Asia-Pacific, Alea is passionate about self-determined motivation and aspirations of all youth, but as an Indigenous Australian with vast experience, she knows what our students need to thrive in life.

Alea is working with the Guidance Officers, staff and families to develop Individual Education Programs which have meaning for our Indigenous students and facilitating them to 'raise the bar' themselves. A calendar of culturally appropriate programs for students to choose from (in line with their aspirations) is being developed. Students, particularly those who are yet to reconnect with their Country, are learning how to confidently use and share the appropriate cultural protocols for self-identification and communicating with Indigenous communities.

Yet to connect? Alea joins us every Friday and encourages you to just drop in, make an appointment, or call on 5471 5333.
