STUDENT RIGHTS

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Students have a right:
· To expect members of the school to operate in a socially just way
· To work in a pleasant, healthy and safe environment
· To be free from discrimination*
· To be treated with respect and dignity
· To be free from intimidations, put downs and bullying
· To be free from threat and verbal and/or physical abuse
· To expect property to be safe
· To expect systems and procedures to be implemented within the school to address issues affecting people’s rights and acceptance of their responsibilities

Students have a responsibility:
· To accept the consequences of their decisions and actions
· To follow reasonable requests promptly
· To avoid unhealthy and dangerous practices for self and others
· To operate in a socially just way
· To learn to the best of their ability
· To be prepared for class
· To attend classes on time
· To adhere to safety regulations
· To treat members of our school community with respect and care
· To give parents all forms of communication from the school, including information about their progress as well as feedback of any problems or concerns
· To support systems and procedures implemented within the school to address issues affecting people’s rights and the acceptance of their responsibilities
· To care for the school environment
To contribute to the positive image within and outside the school
   

TEACHER RIGHTS

TEACHER RESPONSIBLITIES

Teachers have a right:
· To expect members of the school community to operate in a socially just way
· To work in a safe, healthy and pleasant environment
· To be free from discrimination*
· To be treated with respect and dignity
· To be free from intimidation, put downs and bullying
· To be free from threats and verbal and/or physical abuse
· To have reasonable requests carried out promptly
· To expect property to be safe
· To be advised of any information which may influence a student’s progress or welfare at school
· To expect systems and procedures are implemented within the school to address issues affecting people’s rights and the acceptance of their responsibilities
Teachers have responsibility:
· To operate in a socially just way
· To teach to the requirements of the Teachers Standards Framework
· To prepare lessons and units suitable to the abilities and interests of the students in accordance with Education Department guidelines.
· To seek to improve their teaching practices and effectiveness.
· To be on time.
· To follow agreed school/department policies and guidelines.
· To accept the consequences of their decisions and actions.
· To treat members of our school community in a manner free from discrimination.
· To co-operate with members of the school community, and treat them with respect and dignity.
· To inform parents at regular intervals of their student’s progress including prompt feedback of any problems or concerns.
· To support systems and procedures implemented in the school to address issues affecting people’s rights and the acceptance of their responsibilities.
· To care for the school environment.
To contribute to the positive image within and outside the school.
   

PARENT RIGHTS

PARENT RESPONSIBLITIES

Parents have the right:
· To expect members of the school community to operate in a socially just way.
· To expect that the school community will do their job to the best of their ability.
· To expect their child is working in a safe, healthy and pleasant environment.
· To be free from discrimination*.
· To be treated with respect and dignity.
· To be free from intimidation, put downs and bullying.
· To be informed at regular intervals of their student’s progress including prompt feedback of any problems or concerns.
· To expect systems and procedures are implemented within the school to address issues affecting people’s rights and the acceptance of their responsibilities.

Parents have responsibility:

· To operate in a socially just way.

· To provide the necessary requirements for their student’s work at school.

· To accept the consequences of their decisions and actions.

· To treat members of our school community in a manner free from discrimination.

· To co-operate with members of the school community, and treat them with respect and care.

· To advise the school of any information which may influence their child’s progress or welfare at school.

· To become familiar with policies, guidelines and the range of communication options available at the school, and to access this information when necessary.

· To support systems and procedures implemented within the school to address issues affecting people’s rights and the acceptance of their responsibilities, including attendance.

· To contribute to the positive image within and outside the school.

· To send students to school.
